Maharashtra’s cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved the MahaAgri-AI Policy 2025–2029, a ₹500 crore scheme over the first three years aimed at integrating artificial intelligence and modern technology into agriculture across the state.

    Key Tech-Driven Feature

    • Real-Time Crop Intelligence: Farmers will benefit from AI-backed crop monitoring, weather and pest forecasting, and market analytics via drones, smart sensors, and mobile apps—delivering timely and localized guidance.
    • Unified Data Platform – A‑DeX: State platforms like MahaVedh, AgriStack, CropSAP, and Mahadbt will be integrated into the Agricultural Data Exchange, providing a single interface for soil, weather, market, and land-use data.
    • Local Language AI Advisor “Vistaar”: This AI-powered chat and voice assistant will offer agronomic advice in Marathi—covering pest management, government schemes, pricing, and beyond.
    • Blockchain Traceability for Export Crops: A new system using QR codes and blockchain will track crop inputs, quality measures, and post-harvest data—ensuring traceability from farms to export markets.

    Building Innovation and Capacity

    The policy supports innovation through:

    • A dedicated Centre for AgriTech & AI Innovation, and four incubation centres at key agricultural universities (in partnership with IITs and IISc).
    • Training infrastructure including AI labs, mobile helpdesks, and field services staffed by extension workers.
    • Annual district-level “AI in Agriculture” summits aimed at connecting farmers, tech startups, researchers, and investors.

    There’s Room to Evolve

The cabinet approved a three-tier administrative structure—including state steering and technical committees—with progressive reviews scheduled every three years to align with rapid AI advancements.

    ✅ Why This Policy Matters

    1. Empowering Farmers: With AI-driven recommendations in local language, farmers can make real-time decisions to improve yields, reduce costs, and access premium markets.
    2. Innovation Ecosystem: By fostering startups and agritech research collaborations, the policy is a significant step toward transforming Maharashtra into an innovation hub.
    3. Market Edge: Blockchain traceability elevates the credibility of Maharashtra’s agricultural exports, making them more competitive in global markets.
    4. Scalable Framework: Integrating existing platforms and creating upgradable structures ensures the policy evolves with tech advancements.
