Nazara Ventures into Global Gaming with ₹4.74 Crore Investment

June 2025 — Indian gaming and esports giant Nazara Technologies has expanded its strategic footprint into the international gaming ecosystem with a ₹4.74 crore (approximately $570,000 USD) investment into multiple global gaming-focused VC funds. This marks a significant step in Nazara’s ambition to scale beyond domestic boundaries and participate in the global gaming value chain.

A Strategic Bet on Global Gaming

The investment was made across a basket of early- and growth-stage funds based in the U.S., Europe, and East Asia—markets known for innovation in gaming IP, game engines, mobile gaming, and immersive tech like AR/VR.

While the names of the VC funds were not disclosed, Nazara confirmed that they focus on:

    • Mobile-first gaming platforms
    • AI in gaming
    • Cross-platform game development studios
    • Web3 and NFT-based gaming ecosystems

    Why This Matters for Nazara

Nazara Technologies, which owns brands like Nodwin Gaming, Kiddopia, Sportskeeda, and Halaplay, has long dominated India’s casual and esports sectors. However, this move signals a pivot toward becoming a global player not just in publishing and distribution—but in early-stage capital and ecosystem shaping.

“Our investment in global gaming VC funds aligns with our goal to be more than a domestic publisher. We want to gain exposure to cutting-edge innovations and high-growth studios across continents,” said Nitish Mittersain, CEO of Nazara.

Company Snapshot: Nazara at a Glance

    MetricValue (FY25)
    Revenue₹1,100+ crore (estimated, consolidated)
    Net profit₹63.6 crore (FY24 actuals)
    Market Cap (June 2025)₹7,800 crore+
    Global presence70+ countries
    Notable subsidiariesNodwin Gaming, Kiddopia, Sportskeeda

    Why Global Gaming?

The global gaming industry is projected to hit $320 billion by 2026, and Nazara sees value in early exposure to:

    • AAA gaming studios working on cloud-based and console titles
    • AI-assisted game development platforms
    • Blockchain-powered ownership and play-to-earn models

India’s gaming market is also growing, but with a tilt toward mobile gaming, esports, and educational games. Nazara’s global investments allow it to both learn from mature markets and create cross-pollination opportunities for its Indian brands.

    The Venture Capital Advantage

By investing through VC funds, Nazara gains:

    • Indirect equity in 50+ early-stage game companies
    • Pipeline access for future acquisitions or partnerships
    • Board-level visibility into next-gen gaming trends

This also positions Nazara to launch its own fund or accelerator in the future, as it builds credibility in the investment layer of gaming.

    What’s Next?

    Nazara is expected to:

    • Launch a “Nazara Global Gaming Studio Fund” in FY26
    • Expand Nodwin Gaming’s reach into Southeast Asia and MENA
    • Use VC-backed insights to develop India-facing Web3 and AI-based gaming tools
    • Explore co-publishing or co-ownership models with funded studios

    Final Thoughts

Nazara’s ₹4.74 crore global VC investment may seem modest in size, but it’s a strategic masterstroke—positioning the company as India’s first gaming conglomerate with global venture capital DNA. As Nazara looks to evolve from a domestic leader to a transnational force, its bets today could shape the way Indian gamers experience the world tomorrow.
