Mumbai, July 2025 – After years of speculation and delays, Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, unveiling its first Experience Centre in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex and opening orders for the Model Y SUV. This marks a significant step in India’s electric mobility journey.
Tesla is offering the Model Y in two variants—Rear-Wheel Drive (₹59.8 lakh) and Long Range (₹67.9 lakh), imported from China and Germany. Due to India’s high import duties (up to 100%), these EVs come at nearly double their U.S. prices, making them a luxury product.
Deliveries are expected in Q3 and Q4 2025, with Tesla also planning to install Superchargers in Mumbai and Delhi to support its rollout. The launch comes after multiple meetings between Elon Musk and PM Modi, leading to a new policy offering reduced tariffs (15%) for EV makers investing in local manufacturing.
While Tesla’s impact on mass EV adoption remains uncertain, its entry is expected to boost consumer awareness, encourage policy shifts, and energize competition in India’s growing EV market.
